Features

Ultra-Lax Herbal Laxative is a synergistic blend of the following plants and herbs:

Senna is a stimulant laxative made from the leaf and fruit. Senna promotes its laxative effect in relieving constipation by increasing the strength of contraction of the intestinal muscles. It use should be limited to occasional use as tolerance can develop. Long-term use of senna can lead to dependence and may increase the risk for colon cancer.

Cascara sagrada is gentle and effective. In the Ultra-Lax formula the cascarosides are standardized extracts so cascara's efficacy is consistent. Cascara works primarily on the large intestine, stimulating peristalsis.

Licorice root is an anti-inflammatory, expectorant, demulcent; used for colds, flu, coughs, upper respiratory tract infections, peptic ulcers, chronic gastritis. Licorice

is not to be used by individuals with high blood pressure, kidney failure, or who are currently taking digitalis (e.g. Digoxin) unless directed to do so by a health care practitioner. It should not be taken for more than 4 to 6 weeks without medical advice.

Peppermint leaves and oil of peppermint has a warming effect and works as a nerve stimulant. Peppermint leaves act as a sedative on the stomach and helps strengthen the bowels. It is useful for bowel problems, convulsions and spasms in children. It works on the salivary glands to help as an aid in digestion.

Gentian root stimulates the circulation and strengthens the system, being one of the best stomach tonics in the herb kingdom. Gentian is rich in natural sugar and is useful for strengthening the pancreas and the spleen, as well as the kidneys and as an appetite stimulant and is helpful for convalescing and weak patients. Gentian is contraindicated in individuals with high blood pressure, although no rationale is given to this statement. It is best avoided in pregnancy and lactation.
