Discussion: Lactoferrin is an iron transporter glycoprotein originally isolated from bovine milk. Lactoferrin contains 703 amino acids and has a molecular weight of 80 kDaltons. Lactoferrin is found in various mammalian secretions e.g. saliva, tears and milk. Lactoferrin is a multitasking protein with various biological roles including binding to iron and exhibits anti-oxidant, effect and antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating activities.
